The ART of focus

By Dan Koe
Look around. We are on the brink of catastrophe.

A dystopia of excessive pleasure, comfort, and a false sense of security as to how successful you will be is no longer just a relatable movie scene.

Since birth, you were bottle-fed ideas, beliefs, and a default path that lead to nowhere good.

Wake up.
Hit snooze 4 times.
Stare at your phone.
Roll out of bed.
Make coffee.
Sit in traffic.
8 hours of unfulfilling work.
Sit in traffic... again.
Argue with your "significant" other.
Walk the pet.
Watch TV.
Pass out.
Repeat.

Sound familiar?
How does it make you feel?

Seriously. Pause for a moment. Possibly for the first time today. It’s no wonder why most people feel anxious, overwhelmed, and have a cloud of meaninglessness hovering over their heads at all times.

Focus is the cure.

Focus is how you wake up from the dream nightmare of the masses. Focus is how you conduct your own adventure so stop hurling toward a dead end. Take the first step into the unknown. Your ideal future awaits.

THE GOOD LIFE IS A PUZZLE, NOT A FORMULA

My Story

Look, here's the truth about my journey.  I knew from day one in college that I wasn't going to be another corporate zombie. Every failed business, every rejected pitch, every late-night coding session—it was all building something bigger than just income. It was about building myself.

I started with wild ideas. A fitness YouTube channel. Drop shipping rave clothes. Photography. Web design. Most people would've quit after the first few failures. But for me? Those weren't failures. They were tuition payments to the school of entrepreneurship.

My breakthrough? Realizing I could stack skills.  Design, marketing, coding—each became a tool in my arsenal. I wasn't just trying businesses. I was constructing a personal operating system.

When I hit my first six-figure year, it wasn't luck. It was the result of years of relentless experimentation. Writing two hours every morning. Building an audience. Creating products that actually solved real problems.

By 2022, I'd made $800,000 writing. In 2023, that jumped to $3.3 million. But here's what most people miss: it wasn't about the money. It was about constant evolution.

Now I'm building Kortex—a software that'll revolutionize how creators work. And this? This is just the beginning.

The game isn't about avoiding work. It's about doing work that transforms you. Want the real lesson?

Start something. Anything. Just start.

"Nothing Happens, Then Everything Happens. Technically, it took 4-5 years of trial and error since my freshman year of college to reach that point. But I wasn't all too serious. I took too much time off and like cardio, your progress dissipates fast. You have to do it every day for life."

Here’s what readers are saying

Dan's book is the best one I've ever read on focus. Many people overlook this important skill and don't realize it prevents them from joining "The New Rich." This book helped me reclaim my attention and convinced me to immediately do a dopamine fast.

Dan's book has a rare ability to meet readers where they are and take them on a personal journey to growth. His video game analogy–particularly the idea that we can all reset and start our game over at any point in time–will encourage every reader to consider what they truly want and provide them with a framework to go out and get it.
